PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE


Freelance Graphic Designer, Web designer, Writer (1970 – current): Graphic design (print, illustration, production) clients included University of Mississippi, Gulf Coast Business Magazine, United Marine Underwriters, and dozens of other clients. Emphasis currently is on writing, mainly online content development.

Executive Director, Discover Downtown La Grange, La Grange, Kentucky (2010 – 2012): Part-time position focusing on event planning, project management, public relations, community-building within a national Main Street program. Managed eight committees and serve as leadership in board development.

Owner, La Venture Station, La Grange, Kentucky (2011 – 2013): Owner of a co-working cooperative. This is a landlord position that requires little time and effort, yet was foreseen as a unique way to utilize space in the historic downtown district. Hosted several full-time and part-time businesses that all grew to move on, leaving me with a space to close the venture.

Owner, Sticks and Stones retail establishment, Norwood, Colorado (1994-1998): Bead and sewing shop on Main Street. Experienced a profit within two years. Sold business in 1998.

Reporter, Production Artist for Norwoood Press, Norwood, Colorado (1994-1997). Start-up newspaper that the owner sold in 1997.

Major: History. Thesis: "Virginia Huguenot Impact on Southern Baptist Origins"; Advisor: Dr. Ellen Eslinger. Graduated with distinction and 4.0 GPA, full scholarship.

Major: Visual Communications. Graduated with honors.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Winter Quarter 2005 - Teaching Assistant, Department of History, DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois. Served as assistant to Drs. John Burton and Jane Baxter during a travel abroad session in San Salvador, Bahamas. The 2005 course was a second-year phase of a five-year archaeological project focused on a post-Revolutionary War plantation.
1982-1999 - Fine Art and Graphic Design Instructor, private, various locations. Taught individuals and groups from ages six to adult about the elements and principles of design and fine art in classrooms and other public settings.
